Global Partnerships

In the quest and aim to become a foremost global research institution, the JGMCC has already begun establishing collaboration agreements with the following global institutions:

International Slavery Museum, Liverpool, England

The International Slavery Museum is a museum located in Liverpool, UK, which focuses on the history and legacy of the transatlantic slave trade. The museum, which forms part of the Merseyside Maritime Museum, consists of three main galleries which focus on the lives of people in West Africa, their eventual enslavement, and their continued fight for freedom. Additionally, the museum discusses slavery in the modern day as well as topics on racism and discrimination.

Centre de Recherches en Histoire Internationale et Atlantique (CRHIA) at the University of Nantes, Nantes, France
The Institute of Antiracism and Black Studies (IABS)

Considered as a national and international reference on Atlantic history and the history of cultural exchanges and international relations, the CRHIA Research center conducts research at the crossroads between the maritime area and the continental French, European and global spaces.

As many organizations seek to make the workplace more diverse and inclusive of difference, anti-Black racism is a global pandemic we can no longer ignore. The Institute of Antiracism and Black Studies (IABS) is focused on tackling anti-Black racism, transforming the Eurocentric curriculum and harnessing the knowledge of people with lived experience of racism to drive the change for inclusive workspaces, schools and society.

Google Arts and Culture

The Jonathan Green Maritime Cultural Center at the University of South Carolina Beaufort has been invited to become a partnering organization of Google Arts & Culture. Google Arts & Culture (formerly Google Art Project) is an online platform of high-resolution images and videos of artworks and cultural artifacts from partner cultural organizations throughout the world by invitation only. The platform is a beautifully presented one-stop shop for compellingly curated and contextualized art, history, and culture resources enabling audiences who otherwise would be unlikely to visit these museums and cultural organizations to see their works. This partnership enables the JGMCC to serve the World!
